Club demands urgent action from social media platforms as racism persists online.

Liverpool FC has issued a powerful statement condemning the racist abuse directed at Ibrahima Konate on social media, calling the behavior “vile and abhorrent.”
The club described the abuse as dehumanising, cowardly, and rooted in hate, stressing that racism has no place in football, society, or anywhere – online or offline.
“Our players are not targets. They are human beings,” Liverpool said. The club highlighted how anonymous accounts often hide the abuse, leaving platforms responsible for allowing such behavior to persist.
Liverpool insisted that words of condemnation alone are not enough. Social media companies must take responsibility, using their technology and resources to prevent abuse before it spreads. The club stressed that leaving racist hatred unchecked is a choice that continues to harm players, families, and communities.
The Reds confirmed that they will continue to support Konate fully and collaborate with authorities to hold those responsible accountable. However, they emphasized that the burden should not fall solely on players or clubs to respond after the damage is done.
Liverpool concluded: “The current situation cannot continue. It must be confronted, challenged, and eradicated – not tomorrow, but now.”
