Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman targets another strong showing in Europe’s elite competition.

Atletico Madrid forward Ademola Lookman is gearing up for a tough Champions League challenge after the Spanish side secured a place in the quarter-finals. Atletico advanced despite a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the second leg, progressing 7-5 on aggregate thanks to a commanding 5-2 first-leg win.
Lookman played a key role in Wednesday’s encounter, assisting Julián Álvarez for Atletico’s opening goal. This marked the Nigerian international’s eighth goal contribution (four goals, four assists) since his winter transfer from Atalanta.
Reflecting on the achievement, Lookman told UEFA TV:
“I was very happy to be in the next round. Every game is hard, and everyone knows this competition and the quality of the teams, so we are happy to have played today.”
The 28-year-old added:
“It’s a special game against another tough opponent.”
Atletico now face Barcelona in the quarter-finals, a repeat of their recent Copa del Rey semi-final clash. Lookman has already made an impact against the Catalans, recording one goal and one assist in his previous two meetings.
Since joining Atletico, Lookman has tallied four goals and four assists in 13 appearances, underlining his growing importance to Diego Simeone’s squad. With the Champions League quarter-finals on the horizon, the Nigerian winger will look to continue his impressive form against one of Europe’s elite sides.
