Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen have confirmed the permanent signing of London-born Nigerian striker Toyosi Olusanya following his successful loan spell at Pittodrie.
The 28-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Dons after becoming a free agent upon the expiration of his deal with Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo.
Reward for Impressive Loan Spell
Olusanya joined Aberdeen on loan during the second half of last season and quickly became an important member of the squad.
The Nigerian forward made 18 appearances across all competitions and contributed three goal involvements, performances that convinced the Scottish club to secure his services on a permanent basis.
His arrival makes him Aberdeen’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The Dons have already added Alexander Briedl, Lewis Mayo, Brad Lyons and Dan Happe as they prepare for another challenging season in Scotland.
“I Am Buzzing to Be Back”
Speaking after completing the move, Olusanya expressed his delight at returning to Aberdeen permanently.
“I am buzzing to be back.
“From the moment I arrived in January, I felt welcomed by everyone at the club. The staff, the players and the supporters all made me feel at home.
“Coming in during the middle of a season isn’t always easy. I was still working my way back to full fitness and adapting to a new environment, but I felt I improved as the weeks went on and now I have the opportunity to start again with a full pre-season behind me.”
The striker will now have the chance to build on his promising start at Aberdeen with the benefit of a full pre-season programme.
Journey Through English and Scottish Football
Olusanya’s career path has been anything but conventional.
A product of the AFC Wimbledon academy, the forward gained valuable experience in England’s non-league system, representing clubs including Kingstonian, Walton Casuals, Fleet Town, Gosport Borough, Cheshunt and Billericay Town.
His impressive performances eventually earned him opportunities higher up the football pyramid, with spells at Middlesbrough, St Mirren, Arbroath and Doncaster Rovers before his move to Houston Dynamo in Major League Soccer.
The striker’s journey is a testament to perseverance and determination, having climbed through multiple levels of football to establish himself in one of Scotland’s biggest clubs.
Fresh Challenge Ahead
Olusanya is expected to link up with his teammates later this week as Aberdeen begin preparations for the new season.
With European ambitions and domestic expectations once again high at Pittodrie, the Nigerian forward will be eager to make a bigger impact and establish himself as a key player in manager Jimmy Thelin’s plans.
The permanent transfer also represents another important step in the striker’s career and could potentially place him on the radar for future international opportunities with Nigeria.
