Spanish Second Division Side Wins Race for Talented 19-Year-Old Winger.

Antonio Cordero

Cádiz CF have won the race to sign promising Spanish winger Antonio Cordero on loan from Newcastle United, with the deal set to run until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano broke the news on December 28, 2025, stating that Newcastle sources confirmed the agreement after interrupting Cordero’s underwhelming loan at Belgian side KVC Westerlo. The 19-year-old, known as Antoñito, managed just 87 minutes across seven appearances (no starts) in the Jupiler Pro League, prompting the Magpies to seek a better developmental path.

Born in Jerez de la Frontera on November 14, 2006, Cordero is a quick, skillful right winger renowned for his one-on-one dribbling and creativity. He exploded onto the scene at Málaga CF, making 60 senior appearances (7 goals, 9 assists) before joining Newcastle on a free transfer in July 2025 – beating interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Porto.

A Spain U19 international, Cordero returns to LaLiga Hypermotion (Spanish second tier), where he thrived last season. Cádiz, pushing for promotion, outmaneuvered several rivals – including up to four other Segunda clubs – to land the talent. Interestingly, Cordero could face his former side Málaga in March.

Newcastle’s decision prioritizes regular minutes for the youngster, aligning with their strategy of developing “project” signings through loans. The move to Cádiz offers familiar surroundings in Andalusia, potentially reigniting his progress after a frustrating half-season in Belgium.

Final details are being ironed out ahead of the January window. Welcome back to Spain, Antoñito – Cádiz fans are excited.
