Former Super Eagles Boss Returns to Saudi Arabia with Promotion Ambitions.

José Peseiro Al-Ula FC

Former Nigeria Super Eagles head coach José Peseiro has embarked on a new chapter in his career, taking charge of Al-Ula FC in the Saudi First Division League on January 6, 2026.

The 65-year-old Portuguese tactician, who guided Nigeria to a runners-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, has signed a deal until June 2027. This marks his return to Saudi Arabia, having previously managed the national team from 2009 to 2011.

Peseiro’s most recent role was a short four-month stint at Egyptian giants Zamalek in early 2025, which ended in dismissal.

Expressing his excitement on social media, Peseiro wrote: “Very proud to start this new chapter at AlUla FC. More than just a club, I embrace the mission to represent a historic region with an incredible vision for the future. The ambition here is huge, and so is my motivation. Thank you for the trust and the warm welcome. Time to get to work!”

Al-Ula FC, backed by the Royal Commission for AlUla as part of Saudi Vision 2030, are currently in fourth place in the second tier with strong promotion aspirations. The club has invested heavily in recent years, aiming to become a flagship for the historic AlUla region – home to ancient wonders like Hegra.

Peseiro’s experience and track record make him a fitting choice to lead this ambitious project toward the Saudi Pro League.
