Rangers have completed their first signing of the January 2026 transfer window, announcing the capture of Nigerian-born midfielder Tochi Chukwuani from Austrian Bundesliga side Sturm Graz on a three-and-a-half-year deal until the summer of 2029.

The 22-year-old, who holds dual Nigerian and Danish citizenship, joins the Light Blues as a versatile, technically gifted and physically strong addition to manager Danny Röhl‘s midfield options. Chukwuani becomes the first new face under Röhl’s tenure in the winter market.

Chukwuani expressed his delight at the move on the club’s official website: “I’m super excited. Rangers are a huge club and I can’t wait to hear the roar at Ibrox. It’s a historic club with a huge fanbase. There are huge expectations, and this is something as a footballer you want to play in front of. It gives motivation every weekend to go and give 100 per cent and do what you can to put smiles on people’s faces.”

Head coach Danny Röhl welcomed the new arrival, highlighting the qualities Chukwuani brings to the squad: “We are really excited to bring Tochi to the club. He is a player who strengthens our group and offers specific qualities that we believe will enhance our midfield department. With experience of European competition and winning titles, as well as his technical and physical attributes, he knows exactly what is required to thrive at a club like Rangers.”

Chukwuani developed through the youth ranks at FC Nordsjælland in Denmark before moving to Sturm Graz in 2023, where he gained valuable experience in the Austrian top flight and European competitions, including the UEFA Europa League. Known for his composure on the ball, work rate, and ability to play in multiple midfield roles, he arrives with a winning mentality after contributing to domestic success in Austria.

This signing signals Rangers’ intent to bolster their squad during the January window as they push for silverware in the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, and European campaigns.
