Emmanuel Fernandez has issued an emotional apology to Rangers FC supporters after the club’s Scottish Premiership title hopes officially collapsed.
Rangers’ dreams of lifting the league trophy were effectively ended after a painful 3-1 defeat to rivals Celtic, leaving them with too much ground to recover with only two matches remaining.
Fernandez Admits Rangers Fell Short
The Nigerian defender did not hide his disappointment after the setback, admitting the team failed to show enough fight during crucial moments of the campaign.
“First and foremost, I apologise to the fans.”
Fernandez admitted the squad simply did not perform to the expected standard over the last few games.
“We know that we should have done better in the last three games. We feel sorry for the fans.”
The defender also took personal responsibility for some of the team’s struggles instead of blaming teammates.
“I can take stick for it because there are certain moments I probably should have defended better.”
“There is nothing I can say about my teammates. I will probably just look at myself, if anything.”
Focus Turns To Strong Finish
Despite the disappointment, Fernandez insists the team must respond positively in their remaining fixtures against Hibernian FC and Falkirk FC.
“Now we have to pick ourselves up. There are two games to go, and we have to win these two games for the fans.”
The former defender also expressed confidence that Rangers can bounce back stronger next season, especially with several young players expected to improve further.
“When next season comes, we’ll have a good side.”
Fernandez has been one of Rangers’ standout performers this season and remains highly regarded by supporters despite the club’s failure to reclaim the league title.
