Super Eagles boss emerges as candidate after De Zerbi’s Marseille exit.

Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has emerged as a candidate for the vacant Olympic Marseille coaching position, following the departure of Roberto De Zerbi, reports Sportblits.com.
The Marseille job became available on Tuesday after De Zerbi left by mutual consent, a decision that followed the club’s heavy 5–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
According to French journalist Lassana Camara, Chelle is among the coaches under consideration for the role. Former Marseille captain Habib Beye, who most recently managed Stade Rennes, is also said to be on the shortlist.
Chelle’s growing reputation has seen him linked with several clubs since guiding the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, a campaign that earned widespread praise.

Despite the interest from Europe, the Nigeria Football Federation remains hopeful that the Malian tactician will continue with the national team.
“Eric Chelle still has a year left on his contract, he enjoys working with Nigeria, he believes in the Super Eagles and he believes he can achieve with this national team,” NFF president Ibrahim Gusau said.
“The key thing is that he has a great belief in the team and that he can achieve his dream with the team.”
The 48-year-old, who was appointed Super Eagles head coach in January 2025, continues to attract attention as his stock rises on the international coaching scene.
