Egyptian forward ruled out as Reds chase Champions League spot.

Liverpool face a major setback in their chase for a Champions League spot as Mohamed Salah will miss Saturday’s Premier League clash at Brighton due to a muscle injury.
The Egyptian forward was forced off during Liverpool’s 4-0 demolition of Galatasaray at Anfield on Wednesday, a win that secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Salah, 33, has scored in three of his past four starts, bouncing back from a brief goal drought earlier this season.
“It’s unusual,” manager Arne Slot said. “As a result of that I think you can expect the outcome. So, he’s not available for tomorrow.”
Slot provided no exact timeline for Salah’s recovery, but noted the upcoming international break may allow the forward to return sooner.
“We are hoping… that he can recover faster than other players might in similar situations because he takes such good care of his body,” he added.
Despite his recent form, Salah has netted only five Premier League goals this season, a sharp drop from the 29 scored during Liverpool’s title-winning 2024/25 campaign. Slot admitted his team is struggling in attack:
“We’re struggling to score goals… with all the chances we create, it’s unbelievable that we don’t score, especially looking at the quality we have up front.”
Liverpool are currently fifth in the Premier League, two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, with the top five teams likely to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The Reds’ upcoming fixtures include an FA Cup quarter-final clash with Manchester City on April 4 and a Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain.
Missing Salah is a significant blow, but Liverpool will hope their depth and upcoming break can mitigate the impact.
