Danny Welbeck’s double helps Brighton claim a 2-1 victory at the Amex Stadium, leaving Liverpool’s top-four hopes in jeopardy.

Brighton & Hove Albion pulled off a stunning 2-1 victory over Liverpool at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, thanks to a brilliant brace from Danny Welbeck.
The win marks a continuation of Liverpool’s struggles at Brighton, having now failed to win five of their last six league visits to the Amex.
Brighton took the lead in the 14th minute when Ferdi Kadıoğlu’s cross was met by Diego Gómez, who nodded the ball across goal for Welbeck to score at the far post — his 11th league goal of the season.
Liverpool responded on the half-hour mark through Milos Kerkez, who capitalised on a Brighton defensive error to level the score.
However, Welbeck restored Brighton’s lead in the 56th minute. Jack Hinshelwood’s assist found the forward, who scored despite a lengthy VAR check for offside, securing the match-winning goal.
“It’s a fantastic result for us. Danny’s goals were the difference today,” a Brighton spokesperson said post-match.
Following the win, Brighton climbed into eighth place, while Liverpool risk falling five points adrift of the top four heading into the weekend.
Welbeck’s performance underscores his importance to Brighton as they continue to push for a strong Premier League finish this season.
