João Pedro has asked Chelsea fans not to compare him with club legend Didier Drogba despite his explosive debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian striker has quickly become a fan favourite after delivering standout performances in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Many supporters have even started calling him Chelsea’s “new Drogba” because of his physical style, movement, and goalscoring impact.
“Drogba Is An Idol At Chelsea”
Speaking to TNT Sports, Pedro admitted he understands the excitement but insisted he wants to create his own legacy at the club.
“Drogba is an idol at Chelsea. Some fans joke: ‘Maybe we found the new Drogba?’ But I try to go my own way, slowly, without thinking too much about that.”
The 24-year-old made it clear that he respects the Chelsea icon too much to embrace such comparisons this early in his career.
Pedro Explains His Preferred Position
Pedro also revealed that since arriving at Chelsea, he pushed strongly to play exclusively as a traditional No.9 striker.
“Since I arrived at Chelsea, I made it very clear… I wanted to play only as a No.9.”
The Brazilian previously played in multiple attacking roles during his time at Watford and Brighton, but believes central striker is where he can truly dominate.
Kane And Lewandowski Inspire Chelsea Forward
Instead of focusing on Drogba comparisons, Pedro says he studies some of the best strikers in modern football.
“Today, I really like Kane and Lewandowski. I followed Kane more because of the Premier League and I take a lot of inspiration from him.”
His comments will likely excite Chelsea fans even more as the striker continues to grow into one of the club’s most important players.
Chelsea Fans Already Dreaming Big
Even though Pedro wants patience, supporters are already convinced Chelsea may finally have found the elite striker they have been searching for in recent years.
And if his current form continues, the comparisons to Drogba may only grow louder.
