Super Eagles striker to undergo operation on fractured forearm after Champions League clash.

Victor Osimhen has confirmed he will undergo surgery on his fractured right forearm, with an expected recovery period of six weeks, PUNCH Sports Extra reports. The injury occurred during Galatasaray’s 4-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool after a collision with Ibrahima Konate.
“I need to go under the knife. It will take a maximum of five to six weeks. Six weeks at most, and I will be back to football.” — Victor Osimhen
The 27-year-old provided a detailed account of the incident during a livestream with Nigerian influencer Carter Efe, explaining that the pain only hit him when he tried to continue playing:
“I went for the ball, I arrived at the same time as the defender… When I tried to run, the pain stopped me in my tracks: it felt as though my arm was falling off.”
Osimhen also drew on his history of serious injuries to put the setback in perspective:
“I’m no stranger to certain situations. I still have about 18 screws in my face from a previous operation… This injury is just a minor thing compared to what I’ve been through.”
He further revealed that Liverpool players Dominik Szoboszlai and Ibrahima Konate reached out after the game to apologise for the incident:
“Szoboszlai came to meet me and mentioned he didn’t know the injury was as serious. Konate also messaged me — he didn’t mean to harm me. It’s football, these things happen.”
Osimhen, who has returned to Nigeria to prepare for the procedure, expressed his gratitude to Galatasaray for supporting him through a low point in his career:
“They saved me when I was at rock bottom. I will be forever grateful to the club.”
A six-week absence means Osimhen will miss key Super Lig fixtures against Trabzonspor, Kocaelispor, and Genclerbirligi, while racing to be fit for the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce on April 26. Despite the setback, he has contributed 19 goals and seven assists across all competitions this season, underlining his importance to Galatasaray.
