Former Nigeria international Kingsley Obiekwu has praised the improved standard of officiating in the Nigeria Premier Football League, insisting it has significantly raised the quality and credibility of the competition.
The former defender believes referees have shown greater fairness and consistency this season, helping create a more competitive environment across the league.
According to Obiekwu, one major sign of improvement is the increasing number of away victories recorded during the 2025/26 campaign — something traditionally rare in Nigerian domestic football.
He commended the league organisers and officials for the noticeable progress, describing the changes as a positive advertisement for the NPFL.
Obiekwu also weighed in on the fierce title battle involving Rangers International FC and Rivers United FC, comparing the race to the Premier League rivalry between Arsenal and Manchester City.
