Hansi Flick has officially signed a new contract extension with FC Barcelona, keeping him at the club until 2028 (with an option for a third season) just days after guiding the Catalan giants to a second consecutive La Liga title.
The German tactician confirmed the agreement during a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s league clash with Alavés, expressing satisfaction with his progress since arriving in 2024.
“I am very happy and what I have achieved gives me confidence to continue one or two more years,” Flick said.
He added that although many coaches prefer long tenures, he believes Barcelona requires a more measured approach.
“Many coaches would be happy to stay three or four years, but I think at Barca it is better to limit it,” he explained.
“For now, I am under contract until 2028, and if everything goes well, we will extend it. It has been a good agreement for both parties. I have seen that I am in the right place.”
Flick sets bold 100-point target
Despite celebrating another league triumph, Flick insists Barcelona are still pushing for more.
“Our goal is to reach 100 points, and to do so we have to win all three matches,” he said.
“We have celebrated the title a lot but now we can play well.”
Trophy success continues in Catalonia
Since arriving at the club, Flick has delivered an impressive trophy haul, including:
- 2 La Liga titles
- 1 Copa del Rey
- 2 Spanish Super Cups
However, the UEFA Champions League remains the missing piece in his Barcelona tenure, despite his past success with FC Bayern Munich, where he won the competition in 2020.
Barcelona’s European frustration has continued with recent exits, including defeats to Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan in knockout stages.
“We will keep trying” – Flick on Champions League dream
“Everyone dreams of the Champions League. We have tried and we will keep trying. I am grateful for the trust to continue,” Flick added.
With contract stability now secured, Barcelona will look to build on their domestic dominance while finally chasing European glory under their trusted German manager.
