Morocco head coach hails verdict as “well-deserved” following controversial final.

Morocco’s new head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has expressed his support for CAF’s ruling that awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football declared Morocco champions after ruling that Senegal forfeited the January 18 final in Rabat by walking off the pitch for 14 minutes in protest against a potentially decisive penalty. Although Senegal returned to finish the match and won 1-0 in extra time, CAF’s Appeal Board overturned the result, granting Morocco a 3-0 victory.
Speaking during the announcement of his squad for Morocco’s upcoming friendlies against Ecuador and Paraguay, Ouahbi said:
“First of all, I would like to congratulate all Moroccans, the staff, the players and the federation on the good news we got two days ago, which is well-deserved.
“But it’s important to focus on the present and the future. My goal is to make the team competitive for the World Cup.”
The coach emphasized that while celebrating the triumph, Morocco must remain focused on upcoming challenges and building a team capable of performing at the global stage.
