Former Freiburg striker set to compete with Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho at the Hoops.

Scottish Premiership giants Celtic have officially announced the signing of Kano-born forward Junior Adamu on loan from SC Freiburg, confirming the deal via a statement on the club’s official website.
Although born in Kano, Nigeria, Adamu is ineligible to play for the Super Eagles, having been cap-tied to Austria following his appearance in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Israel in November 2021.

The 24-year-old striker joins Celtic on a temporary deal until the end of the 2025–26 season, as he looks to secure regular playing time after limited opportunities in Germany.
Primarily a centre-forward, Adamu will now compete for a starting spot with Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho at Celtic. Iheanacho has featured from the bench in his last two matches after returning from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for over six weeks.
Adamu joined Freiburg from RB Salzburg in the summer of 2023 and has since made 67 competitive appearances, scoring seven goals and providing four assists across all competitions.
This season, he has recorded nine Bundesliga appearances and nine cup outings, underlining his experience at top European level.
Off the pitch, Adamu has also maintained strong ties with Nigeria. Last summer, he visited the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, showing support for grassroots football development initiatives.
His arrival adds depth, competition, and pace to Celtic’s attack as they push for domestic dominance and European progress.
