Blues’ interest in Spurs’ Lucas Bergvall blocked as London club looks ahead to summer window.

Chelsea reportedly made a January approach for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall, but the move was instantly rejected, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
The Sweden international, who was Spurs’ 2024/25 Player of the Season and a key figure in their Europa League triumph under Ange Postecoglou, has been used in wide positions this season under Thomas Frank. Despite interest from Chelsea and Aston Villa, Tottenham made it clear he was not for sale, with the 20-year-old contracted until 2031.
Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior, just 39 days into his tenure, is still assessing the squad and has made one winter signing – 17-year-old left-back Yisa Alao. However, the Blues are already eyeing potential summer targets, with Bergvall reportedly on their radar.

This season, Bergvall has made 26 appearances in all competitions, including 17 in the Premier League, though only seven starts, as his role under new interim Spurs boss Igor Tudor remains unclear.
Spurs return to action on February 22 against Arsenal, marking Tudor’s first match in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Chelsea, meanwhile, continue to monitor transfer opportunities for the summer window.
Chelsea’s rejected bid underlines Spurs’ determination to retain key talent despite interest from Premier League rivals.
