
Tobi Amusan has set her sights on retaining her women’s 100m hurdles crown at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.
The Nigerian superstar cruised into the final after winning her heat in a season-best 12.82 seconds, reinforcing her status as the favourite for the title.
“I’m looking forward to defending my title”
Speaking ahead of the final, Amusan expressed gratitude and confidence as she prepares for another major showdown.
“I’m thankful to be here, representing my country… I’m looking forward to defending my title,” she said.
The 29-year-old is aiming for a third African title, further cementing her dominance on the continent.
Managing fitness and season workload
Amusan also highlighted the importance of managing her body carefully due to recent injury concerns.
She explained that her team has been selective about her race schedule to ensure peak performance when it matters most.
“Since 2023, I have had series of injuries… I’m just listening to my body,” she added.
Focus shifts to final showdown in Accra
All attention now turns to the final at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, where Amusan will chase another continental triumph for Nigeria.
