Victor Boniface has opened up on one of the most difficult periods of his career, revealing how Nigerian music star Teni played a key emotional role during his recovery from a serious knee injury.
The Super Eagles striker underwent surgery on January 10 after months of battling persistent knee pain that eventually ended his season prematurely during his loan spell in Germany.
Boniface later admitted he had been struggling privately, saying he was often “putting on a fake smile” while dealing with the injury.
The forward suffered a major setback in December 2025 after severe cartilage damage, which required surgery in Innsbruck under specialist Dr. Christian Fink.
Amid the long recovery process, Boniface took to his official X account to publicly appreciate Teni’s consistent support.
“After my surgery, I know how many times Teni Entertainer call to check on me. Respect.” — Victor Boniface
Teni, born Teniola Apata, has long been one of Nigeria’s most popular entertainers, known for hit songs like Case, Uyo Meyo, and Billionaire, as well as her strong connection to sports personalities.
Boniface’s injury also disrupted his momentum at club level, forcing him into a long rehabilitation period while on loan at Werder Bremen.
The striker has since returned to light training with parent club Bayer Leverkusen, and recently made the bench again after months out, signaling progress in his recovery.
Although he is still not fully fit, he is expected to feature in the closing stages of the season as he works his way back to full sharpness.
Despite setbacks, Boniface remains one of Nigeria’s most exciting forwards, and this latest recovery phase could mark an important step toward rebuilding his career momentum.
