Michael Carrick questions consistency after controversial penalty calls cost Manchester United in dramatic Premier League clash.

Michael Carrick has strongly criticised officiating decisions following Manchester United’s dramatic 2-2 draw against AFC Bournemouth, describing key moments as “baffling” and “astonishing.”
United took the lead in the second half through a penalty converted by Bruno Fernandes after a foul on Matheus Cunha. However, controversy erupted minutes later when Amad Diallo was brought down in a similar situation, only for VAR to rule the contact insufficient.
Carrick did not hide his frustration post-match:
“He’s definitely got one of them wrong… it’s almost identical.”
Moments after the denied penalty, Bournemouth capitalised immediately, with Ryan Christie scoring to level the match — a turning point that visibly shifted momentum.

United regained the lead when James Hill turned the ball into his own net, but the drama continued late on. Harry Maguire conceded a penalty and was sent off after fouling Evanilson, allowing Bournemouth to equalise once again.
Carrick was particularly critical of the inconsistency:
“If you have two hands on someone in the box… for me it’s two penalties.”
“It’s baffling really… one of them must be wrong.”
Despite the frustration, United showed resilience to hold on with 10 men. However, the dropped points could prove costly as they continue their push for a top-five finish in the Premier League.
The result leaves United still in contention for Champions League qualification — but with growing concerns over officiating consistency in crucial moments.
