Sporting Lagos began their Nigeria National League (NNL) Super Four playoff campaign on a winning note, edging Ranchers Bees 1–0 in Ikenne.
From the opening whistle, Sporting Lagos showed strong attacking intent, with Seun Akanji coming close in the 17th minute, only to be denied by a sharp save from the Ranchers Bees goalkeeper. The pressure continued to mount as Aliyu Baba also impressed with his forward runs, but the breakthrough remained elusive for much of the first half.
Despite dominating possession and territory, Sporting Lagos struggled to break down a disciplined Ranchers Bees defense—until a moment of quality five minutes before halftime changed the game.
A well-coordinated move saw Shola Oladunjoye combine effectively with Akanji, who delivered a precise cross into the box. Alex Leme rose above the defenders to head home in the 40th minute, scoring what would prove to be the decisive goal.
Ranchers Bees responded with increased urgency after the break, pushing forward in search of an equalizer. However, Sporting Lagos remained compact and organized at the back, successfully holding on to secure all three points.
A disciplined performance and a crucial win to kick off the Super Four campaign.
