Chelsea FC’s troubling season has reached a new low after a 3–1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, marking their sixth consecutive loss in the Premier League.
This dismal run represents the club’s worst league losing streak in over three decades, with the last occurrence dating back to November 1993. It also adds to what has already been described as Chelsea’s most difficult spell since the early 20th century.
Forest, under Vitor Pereira, have been in impressive form and continued their surge toward safety with a confident display at Stamford Bridge.
The visitors struck early through Taiwo Awoniyi, who opened the scoring inside the first two minutes. Forest doubled their lead after Malo Gusto conceded a penalty, which Igor Jesus converted.
Awoniyi added his second of the match early in the second half, finishing from a low cross by Morgan Gibbs-White to make it three.
Chelsea thought they had reduced the deficit earlier when João Pedro found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside by VAR by the narrowest of margins. The Brazilian eventually got on the scoresheet in stoppage time, producing a stunning bicycle kick to end the team’s nine-and-a-half-hour goal drought.
There was further frustration for the hosts as Cole Palmer had a penalty saved by Matz Sels, while Jesse Derry was stretchered off following a heavy collision.
Now under interim boss Calum McFarlane, following the departure of Liam Rosenior, Chelsea have not recorded a league win since January.
The defeat leaves the Blues in 9th place, now 10 points adrift of the Champions League spots, and increasingly at risk of slipping into the bottom half of the table.
A season spiraling out of control — Chelsea’s crisis shows no signs of slowing down.
