Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has reportedly been dropped from the Olympique de Marseille squad following an alleged incident involving a fire extinguisher at the club’s training base.
According to reports from the Daily Mail and L’Equipe, the former Chelsea FC and Borussia Dortmund striker led a late-night gathering involving around 10 players during the team’s stay at La Commanderie.
The situation reportedly escalated when Aubameyang allegedly sprayed staff member Bob Tahri, who was responsible for enforcing the club’s curfew, with a fire extinguisher.
Internal witnesses reportedly described the atmosphere as resembling a:
“summer camp”
The incident comes during a difficult period for Marseille, who have struggled badly in recent weeks and are now in danger of missing out on next season’s Champions League.
Despite scoring nine Ligue 1 goals this season and remaining one of Marseille’s most-used players, Aubameyang will reportedly not travel for the upcoming clash against Le Havre AC as punishment for the incident.
The Gabonese striker has since apologised both to Tahri and the club hierarchy, but the fallout has already created fresh tension around the squad during a critical stage of the season.
