Hussein Mohammed has expressed strong confidence in East Africa’s ability to successfully host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting the region is prepared to deliver a historic tournament.
Speaking during a meeting with Patrice Motsepe, the Football Kenya Federation boss praised the collective efforts of the Pamoja host nations and highlighted the region’s readiness both on and off the pitch.
“East Africa will deliver the best AFCON”
Mohammed confidently backed the region to stage a memorable tournament that will stand out in African football history.
“I have no doubt East Africa is ready and will deliver the best AFCON the continent and the world has ever seen,” he said.
He also dismissed comparisons with other host nations, stressing that East Africa’s identity and culture would make the competition unique.
“We are unique in East Africa and we will deliver a unique AFCON that has never been seen.”
More than stadiums and infrastructure
According to Mohammed, preparations extend beyond facilities and logistics, with the region’s hospitality and work ethic forming a major part of the hosting vision.
“It is not just the hardware… but also the software. East Africa is known for its hospitality,” he added.
He pointed to the successful hosting experience during the African Nations Championship (CHAN) as proof of the region’s growing capability.
CAF encouraged by progress
CAF continues to monitor preparations closely across the co-host nations, with Motsepe reportedly pleased by the pace of development under the Pamoja initiative.
The 2027 AFCON will also carry historic significance as the tournament celebrates its 70th anniversary and prepares for CAF’s transition to a new competition cycle from 2028 onward.
