Kenya has reinforced its commitment to co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), as East African nations continue strengthening joint preparations under the Pamoja framework.
Salim Mvurya confirmed that recent high-level discussions with Patrice Motsepe and regional sports ministers marked a key step forward in consolidating hosting plans.
Strategic planning for AFCON 2027
According to Mvurya, the meeting focused on building a structured framework to guide tournament delivery, including governance systems, coordination mechanisms, and financial planning.
“We jointly assessed the operational grounding framework… necessary for the successful delivery of the continental tournament,” he said.
The discussions also revisited resolutions from earlier meetings in Kampala, where East African nations agreed on a shared roadmap for preparation.
Pamoja Bloc confidence growing
Mvurya praised CAF’s continued support and expressed confidence in the region’s ability to successfully stage the tournament.
He noted that the Pamoja Bloc is committed to working collectively to ensure smooth organization across all host nations.
Toward a historic AFCON edition
The 2027 AFCON will mark the 70th anniversary of Africa’s premier football competition and will be the final edition held under the current odd-year format before CAF transitions to a new cycle from 2028.
With momentum building, East Africa’s joint bid continues to position itself as one of the most ambitious hosting projects in the tournament’s history.
