
Patrice Motsepe has commended East African nations for their steady progress as preparations intensify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The CAF president made the remarks during his visit to Nairobi, where he assessed Kenya’s readiness to co-host the tournament alongside other East African countries.
Kenya’s progress under spotlight
Motsepe highlighted Kenya’s recent steps forward, including improved financial commitments and accelerated infrastructure development linked to the tournament.
He stressed that these efforts reflect a strong regional commitment to delivering a successful AFCON.
“Kenya is amongst the three nations that will host next year’s AFCON… the biggest sporting event on African soil,” Motsepe said.
Stadium inspections underway
During his visit, Motsepe also held meetings with local officials and inspected key venues, including:
- Talanta Sports Stadium
- Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani
Both stadiums are central to Kenya’s hosting plans and are expected to play major roles during the tournament.
